Frauenaufstand

In Argentina, some older indigenous caciques (chiefs) do not allow their women to have a say on issues such as domestic violence and femicide. In order to make their voices heard, the women have set up discussion groups.

Stop femizide

Frauenbegräbnis

For the past decade, Basilien has had one of the highest rates of femicide in the world. As the state has failed to act, women have had to organise themselves.

Cybermobbing

Young Mexican women continue to suffer greatly under the patriarchal system. However, one schoolgirl has broken through the stigma of cyberbullying after becoming a victim herself.

Disappeared daughters

Stiefel einer Vermissten

The drug war in Mexico does not spare women either. They are the ones who suffer when their sons, daughters and brothers go missing. As the state does nothing to help, they risk their own lives to find their loved ones.

Outsmarting machos.

Machos titel

Emancipation has not yet taken root in Mexican indigenous communities.

However, women are still finding ways to come together!

Condoms for sex workers

Nicaragua 2011 Demo

AIDS remains a major threat to sex workers, particularly in a conservative and patriarchal country like Nicaragua. Due to pressure from the Church, there is no sex education in schools and abortion is not permitted. A women's centre is stepping in to fill the gap.
